By Ian Cairns, of Arnolds based in Wroxham, Norfolk
“We are on holiday here because we’re interested in buying a riverside house with a mooring.” This is one of the most frequent requests Arnolds receives at our Broadland office in Wroxham, and evidences people’s continuing love affair with the Broads. There has always been strong demand for waterside homes at all price levels, from freehold mooring plots starting at around £30,000 to the highly desirable riverside homes found in the most popular villages of Wroxham, Hoveton, Horning and Coltishall. The appeal is obvious; life at five miles per hour as an antidote to the stress of modern
life and the ability to jump in a boat and slip away from a private mooring at the bottom of the garden, or just to fish from the veranda, glass of wine in hand. Some buyers will only consider a home on the main river, so they can enjoy the endless boating activity and inevitable drama that ensues in high season, whereas others prefer the tranquility and privacy of the backwaters.
