Busy start to the year

I have worked for Taylors estate agents for 13 years, and every year I am always shocked as to how busy the start of the year is, and this year is no exception. Even when we returned for the few days between Christmas and new year the number of new applicants we were registering along with the number of clients contacting us to have there properties valued with the view of getting there property on the market, increased on previous weeks. This trend is continuing and based on my own experience the market is always very good for the first quarter of the year.
The numbers of properties available increase as do the number of people registering. I consider the start of the year a very good time to move to maximise the upturn in activity, possibly selling more quickly as well as potentially achieving a greater price. It is also a very good time for purchasers especially first time buyers as properties are still considerably cheaper than they were a couple of years ago as well as more property coming onto the market, giving buyers more choice than there has been in previous months. I also find that a lot of buyers like to move into there new homes in time for the spring/ summer months to maximise the holiday time as well as the good weather in there new home.
So far, 3 weeks into the new year there seems to be no let up in increased activity and I see no reason why things should change. Based on experience when activity is good the only thing that does change is that property prices start to rise steadily, which we have already seen, gradually happen over the last couple of months.
