Now HIPs have been in for more than a year, just what do
people really think about them? The latest OFT (Office of Fair Trading) release of their survey data, indicated that 80% of consumers were happy with the service they got from agents and other professionals involved in the process of HIPs. Their dissatisfaction came from the process itself. Agents will have mixed feelings about this!! An 80% satisfaction with the work of agents and lawyers is a great “pat on the back” for the property-professionals and came at the end of a hard year. However, following the introduction of HIPs, the expressed dissatisfaction is disappointing although echoes the view of many estate agents, who remain critical of the role of HIPs in transactions and would like to see them scrapped. The Energy Performance Certificate (found in every pack and
on agents particulars) remains less controversial, with broad recognition that climate change is an important issue any measures which help to reduce greenhouse gasses are worthwhile.
