FAQ: How do I choose a good kitchen company?

January is one of the biggest months of the year for buying a new kitchen boosted by two major factors: The 1st is the ‘final straw’ effect of Christmas. The stress of trying to force the turkey into that old oven brings on a cry of “enough, I want a new kitchen!!” and then the January sales start and we are bombarded with adverts for new and shiny kitchens at unbelievable prices.

So you have decided you want and need a new kitchen but you have heard the horror stories about rogue traders and kitchen disasters so how do you find a company you can trust?

Friends and Family; It is always worth starting by asking friends and families if they have used a company and if they could recommend them or ones to avoid.

Association Members; Is your supplier a member of a Trade Association. Both the KBSA and the Consumer Protection Association can recommend companies and by using a member your deposit if protected and you someone to turn to if you encounter any problems

Reputation & References Always ask your supplier for some references. Can you talk to or visit someone who has had their kitchen fitted to see the quality of their workmanship.

Payment Which? magazine recommend paying for your purchase with your credit card or using finance as you are then protected under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and you can turn to the finance company should you encounter any problems.
